Sangre Azul (Blue Blood)

21”w x 18”h

Price: $160.00

The fabric in the center was created using a blue Elmer's glue resist and then painting with diluted fabric paint. I wanted to create the look of blood cells but use artistic license and not make it red. Sangre Azul is a Spanish term that is derived from the fact that the veins of aristocratic white Spaniards appeared blue through their skin, as opposed to that of the darker, and lower class, Moors. I made bias strips and used them to continue out the feeling of flowing fluids. I love the way the quilting compliments this piece and the wonderful blues and greens.
