FROM WINTER WE EMERGE

26”w x 30”h

Price: $600.00

Best Hand Workmanship – 2010 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival

The ivory-colored raw silk area in the upper left represents the late winter snow, while the earth tones of the rest of the piece are the colors of spring as we move from one season to another. The extensive beading helps to move the viewer's eye around this abstract representation of a changing landscape. I finished this piece in February when here in Montana we are eagerly anticipating the thaw. This got me there ahead of reality!

Textural commercial fabrics were combined to create an earthy feel. The quilting is all self-guided free motion with very minimal marking, done on my domestic Pfaff. The extensive beading is of original design, except for the solid dark brown fringe which is a purchased trim. I created and added the beaded leaf drops over that purchased fringe to add interest and color. The center fabric is an upholstery sample I had in my fabric collection on which I did a lot of threadwork in order to compliment the graphic, yet organic, design.
